Our students are serious and hardworking, but at some point during their time at NKU, many of them will confront unexpected financial challenges. A small amount of additional support can make a big difference and even change the course of their lives.
What is this about? We are seeking ways to keep as many students as possible enrolled until they graduate from NKU. Some students experience difficult situations that can make it hard to continue their studies. If students owe an outstanding balance of more than $100, a hold is put on their account that will prevent them from registering for classes until the balance is paid down.
Why do we need you? In the face of increasing challenges to university budgets, we do not have a sustainable source of funding to offer adequate assistance for all those at risk of being unable to re-enroll. We would like to crowdsource a fund that will allow donors to have a direct impact on the success of students in need, even if they are unable to donate a large amount to endow a full scholarship. Even a relatively small contribution can make a big difference in a student’s progress towards an Informatics degree at NKU by helping them remove any financial holds and avoid any disruption to their progress.
Who benefits? Students who are unable to pay off any residual balances on their account, even after they receive financial aid in the form of scholarships and loans will benefit. In our continued efforts to help make an NKU education more affordable, we will try to help those students most at risk for dropping out, yet with the most potential to succeed if they are retained. These students will have solid academic records, and will have demonstrated efforts to find the resources to pay as much of their bill as they can (e.g., applying for scholarships and other financial aid). Assistance from this fund will be limited to a maximum of $1,500 per student. If you would like to designate your donation to support a student within a specific Informatics department (Communication, Computer Science, Business Informatics), please specify in the multiple-choice section provided on the donation page.
