This project has now closed. If you are interested in supporting Hand in Hand: Rebuilding Lives for Refugees, please contact Andi Sharp at sharpa5@nku.edu. Thank you!
Last year, NKU's social work students raised $6,263 to support RefugeeConnect's Family Stability Fund – and it was all thanks to you!
This year, we are working towards raising $6,000. With your help, we can support Community Building Events hosted by RefugeeConnect, helping refugee families make new friends and access resources. One of our classmates said below about what they are learning as a future social worker:
"This course has taught me a lot about fundraising for a non-profit organization. It taught me how to start and grow a campaign. I learned what was needed to do in order to have a successful campaign and ways to raise money for it. I learned how to get my own community's support for my cause."

If you have already made a gift to our 2024 project, thank you! We appreciate your support!
Our campaign ended on April 21, and we surpassed our push goal! Thanks to you and the $800 match from our generous friend, we raised $6,263 to support RefugeeConnect’s Family Stability Fund.
With the funds raised from this project, refugee families will have the opportunity to begin their new lives in the northern Kentucky area and become self-sufficient in their new communities. We are so thankful that you chose to support this project!
Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the next $800 we raise for our project will be matched dollar-for-dollar! We are so thankful for your support so far and excited to continue our campaign with this new match.
Will you help us meet our match by spreading the word about our project? By meeting this match, we will surpass our push goal of $6,000 and have the opportunity to support even more local refugee families than we originally planned.
We launched our project two weeks ago, and thanks to your support, we have already raised over $4,600 to support RefugeeConnect’s Family Stability Fund!
This project has helped us learn so much about philanthropy and how non-profits like RefugeeConnect depend on generous donors to serve our community. Read below to find out what some of our classmates have learned so far:
“During the pandemic, RefugeeConnect turned to their cultural leaders and hired them to help the community. The organization offered training and resources to these already established community members to be more effective since they were already part of and interacting within the community. RefugeeConnect utilized the tools, people, and resources they already had to continue working through the pandemic and helping the refugee community through any and every means they had at their disposal.”
“Having individual donations for a non-profit is very helpful. Individual donations provide non-profits multiple sources of funding rather than relying on one large source. Individual donors also have less restrictions on the way the donations can be used, which is helpful.”
Thank you for supporting our project and the refugee community in northern Kentucky! We are excited to continue working toward our push goal of $6,000!
We are so excited to let you know that in less than one week, we met our $2,000 match provided by the Horizon Community Funds! Thanks to you, we have surpassed our initial goal of $4,000 to support RefugeeConnect’s Family Stability Fund – which means we can provide a deposit for a new place to live for four families in need!
We are so excited about the outpouring of support and love from our friends and families that we’re announcing a push goal of $6,000. If our classes raise an additional $2,000 for the Family Stability Fund, we can have an even larger impact on our local refugee community.
