Hallo! In German 480, we enjoy playing video games with Germans and fighting monsters online. However, there’s more to our class than just a video game. We are participating in the Mayerson Student Philanthropy Project this semester. Our goal is to identify a social issue that is present in popular video games and in our Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area, to find a non-profit organization in our area combating this issue and to raise money for a helpful donation to its cause. Throughout the first two months of the semester we have chosen to support Transitions, Inc. in their battle against drug addiction.
Transitions, Inc. is a nonprofit organization celebrating its fiftieth year in helping the Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati community battle substance abuse and addiction. Their goal is help people transition from the pain of addiction to the gratitude of recovery through a multitude of different services, including residential treatment, non-medical detoxification, intensive outpatient treatment programs, support groups, mental health therapy, and other services such as help with employment or housing in order to encourage new, rehabilitated lifestyles. They put an emphasis on treating each client as an individual and use targeted case management to make sure that all aspects of the person are treated- addiction is not a simple issue and the holistic approach of Transitions, Inc. acknowledges this.
However, they are currently lacking the capacity and resources to fully combat the serious problem of drug addiction in our community. Their newest expansion initiative (Project 180) will leave them better equipped to battle the substance abuse and heroin epidemic, but they cannot reach their goal alone. Please join us on our quest and take a step in aiding someone’s transition on the road to recovery by donating to fund Project 180.
