University Connect and Persist is launching an Impact Campaign to raise funds to support our free UCAP Textbook Lending @ Steely Program.
"The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) collects data about student costs based on schools' estimates. In 2022-2023, schools estimated that books and supplies cost first-year, full-time undergraduate students roughly $1,000-$1,220 on average." (NCES, 2023)
In the 2023-2024 academic year, the UCAP Textbook Lending @ Steely program helped to save students over $32,000! UCAP Textbook Lending @ Steely Library allows students to borrow textbooks for an entire semester at no cost to them. Students who borrow a book are invited to meet with UCAP staff for a financial and academic wellness check. There is no limit to the number of textbooks that can be borrowed, as long as they pertain to one of their registered courses.
This fundraiser could help University Connect and Persist to provide free textbooks to students through the following levels of contributions (these levels do not reflect the actual items that will be purchased, but rather provide context for the price of textbooks in various programs): Level 1: Public Speaking 101 $20, Level 2: Sociology 100 Textbook $50, Level 3: Math 115 Textbook $100, Level 4: Spanish 101 Textbook $150, Level 5: Chemistry 115 Textbook $200, and Level 6: Nursing 250 Bundle $450.
