Dr. Rosa Weaver was a friend to all who met her.
Rosa was well known and respected in Northern Kentucky as an educator and a friend to every life she touched. She began her teaching career in 1969 at Erlanger Elementary. She then moved to Kenton County, where she served as an educator for the rest of her K-12 career (teacher at Caywood Elementary School, teacher at Dixie Heights High School, Dean of Girls at Scott High School, principal at Ryland Heights Elementary, and principal at R.C. Hinsdale Elementary). She served at Hinsdale for 18 years.
When she retired from service in the P-12 schools, the City of Edgewood proclaimed June 4, 1999 “Dr. Rosa Weaver Day,” and she was named a Kentucky Colonel by the governor. Rosa continued her own education at University of Kentucky, earning her Ed.D. Soon after, Rosa began another journey as a Professor at Northern Kentucky University, where she was hired to develop a new Master of Arts degree in Instructional Leadership (principal certification). Until her retirement in 2019, Rosa was instrumental in teaching and preparing a new generation of students, teachers, school principals and leaders across the northern Kentucky region. At whatever level of education, Rosa was not “just a teacher.” She served her students as a guide, mentor and friend. Adding her “golden” touch, she encouraged her students to be their best selves. In total, Rosa devoted 50 years as an educator in the Northern Kentucky area.
Throughout her 20 years at NKU and after her retirement, Rosa enjoyed traveling the world, golfing, shopping, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She also made time to volunteer with various charitable and educational foundations, continuing her commitment to education in Kentucky. In 1995, she was declared Woman of the Year of Northern Kentucky–a well-deserved title!
Please consider making your best gift today to the Dr. Rosa Weaver “Golden” Memorial Scholarship and help Rosa's golden touch live on at NKU and our region through the next generation of teachers and school leaders.

During her entire tenure at NKU, Rosa frequented the Grandview Tavern & Grille in Fort Mitchell for friendship, music, good food and laughter. Colleen Haws, Founder and CEO of Grandview, initiated this scholarship in memory of her dear friend Rosa. On June 23, 2024, the Grandview Tavern & Grille will be hosting a ticketed memorial event to benefit this fund, including special music guest Jeff Henry (Rosa’s favorite), auction, raffle and a continued celebration of her life.
