As a class we were challenged to explore the ways clothing effects the basic human instinct of first impression. As costume designers that is challenge that we are faced with each character on stage.
We set out to discover how the power of clothing and first impressions change people's lives in our community.
Our research helped us realize the severity of need in the community and the various organizations that meet them. So we decided to be part of the solution!
In conjunction with the Mayerson Foundation and Impact NKU, our goal is to provide funding of $3,000 to Dress for Success Cincinnati.
This organization outfits their clients with a wardrobe that will take them through the interview process and into their first weeks or months of employment. We hope you join us in this fundraising campaign to “prepare, empower and transform” the women of Cincinnati.
Dress for Success Cincinnati is an organization that strives to do just that. Their mission revolves solely on empowering women to become financially independent.
Through these programs, Dress for Success Cincinnati helps over 1,300 women a year.
You can help them too, by supporting our cause. Your donation will be used to purchase plus-sized suits and shoes sizes 9 ½ and larger. These are items that, because they are not often donated, are the biggest need.
As students of the School of the Arts at NKU, we are challenged to learn inside and outside the classroom - and use our lessons to improve our community. This project has allowed us to search and examine a variety of non-profits through-out the greater Cincinnati area. We developed a variety of work to life skills on this project; professional communication, outreach, cold-calling, and grant writing.
After making our non-profit selection, we practiced a ranging of public relations and marketing skills, as well as growing new skills in film and photography. We are learning to set up a fundraising campaign as well as developing the ability to ask for and find funding. All of the these skills are important in the non-profit world as well as the arts.
By supporting Changing Clothes, Changing Lives, you will help empower women in our community to become financially independent and have hope for a new and rewarding future. And you will help NKU students develop the skills necessary to continue to foster positive change for themselves and their community.
