The CARE Closet @ NKU

Help the Care Closet remain a staple resource for students on campus!

The Care Closet at NKU first came into consideration before the pandemic. The director of the Institute for Health Innovation, Carolyn Noe, considered that students who may be experiencing food insecurity might be feeling the same financial strain when it comes to buying new clothes. In partnership with the Care Closet space in Newport, KY, the branch on NKU's campus was first opened for student shopping on May 24th, 2021.

How does the Care Closet at NKU operate?

During the height of COVID cases in our region, the space was operating on an appointment-only basis. Students were able to submit information about their sizes, color preferences, and any information about specific clothing items needed. This semester, we are so excited to be operating at full capacity utilizing walk-ins for maximum student access. We are seeing up to 20 students per DAY! The space currently has items including, but not limited to: suit jackets, slacks, jeans, leggings, pajamas, blouses, dresses, hoodies, workout wear, sneakers, dress shoes, high heels, undergarments, belts, bags, ties and jewelry.

We need YOUR help!

Because the Care Closet at NKU is a nonprofit, being able to update the space and maintain such a high demand this semester has been challenging. We are seeking to reach our goal of $1,500 to purchase more durable, long-lasting equipment such as new hangers and rolling racks. In addition, we will finally be able to purchase a pop-up dressing room, where students have the ability to try on clothes before they leave. With your help, the Care Closet will be better able to provide our students with clothes they can wear to job interviews, work, the gym and class - please donate today to help us update the Care Closet space!

$15

Office Supplies

We are in need of miscellaneous supplies that help us run our day-to-day activities. These include things like sharpies, stickers, labels, fabric refresher, stain sticks, etc.

$30

Sizing Tools

To ensure that our students are finding clothes that fit them in their correct measurements, we are in need of some sizing tools. Measuring tape and shoe sizing scales are two examples of these tools.

$50

Packs of Hangers

As you can imagine, the Care Closet is in need of nice hangers! The use of velvet hangers helps to prevent tearing the clothes and gives the space a more professional feel. Your $50 donation provides us with 50 hangers.

$100

Shopping Bags

We use custom shopping bags at the Care Closet that are reuse-able for the student. Branded with our logo on the side, these bags help spread our name across campus to reach as many students as possible. Your donation of $100 helps us order 80 more bags.

$250

Clothing Racks

The Care Closet space is in need of durable clothing racks. Transporting clothes between places on campus for events can be difficult with few racks available to us. Your $250 donation buys us one new, durable clothing rack.
